The Victoria County Historical Society (VCHS) is a non-profit organization designed to increase community awareness and appreciation of the local heritage. And the area has so much history to share!
Victoria County was formed in 1854 as The United Counties of Peterborough and Victoria. It was separated from Peterborough in 1863. In 2001 the county was dissolved and reformed as the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Today the VCHS celebrates and shares local stories focusing on the area’s connection to Canada’s history.
There are a number of upcoming events to highlight the area’s rich history.
Consider the Victoria County Historical Creative Writing Competition. You have to be 18 years old or older and submit an unpublished story of any genre, to a maximum of 2500 words. Deadline for submissions is midnight on September 9th, 2018. Visit the Olde Gaol Museum website for all of the details.
Trunks to Treasure: Bringing history to life from Souvenir to Artifact is open for public viewing from August 9th to the 31st.
And for something different – and exciting – why not visit the Olde Gaol Museum on Sunday August 19th and meet with Jennifer – The Medium. Jennifer has a regular monthly spot on the “Morning Den” radio show on 105.5 Hits FM with Dan Pollard. She has been connecting with spirit from the age of three. Her talents include spiritual healing, teaching and inspirational speaking. Her services include one on one readings, reading parties, past life regression parties, meditation, and mediumship development classes.

On August 19th the VCHS will be hosting three one-hour group readings with Jennifer at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Each group is limited to 25 guests and tickets are $30 each.
