Danielle French is the founder and owner. It all started just 10 years ago, as a small food delivery business and has grown into a culinary destination – plus lots more!
The property is over 60 acres of land tucked into Bethany Hills. While there you can enjoy a farm fresh lunch and baked goods – proof of the strong connection between the land and the food that is grown. Take your purchase to go, sit and enjoy it in the kitchen or by the fire. Reservations are recommended though!
News of a good thing usually spreads by word of mouth or social media – and it certainly did in the case of South Pond Farms. But there is one more way that people are discovering everything the farm has to offer – South Pond Farm was discovered by Netflix. The creator of a new DIY channel, Makeful, was looking for a unique location to build a series around – South Pond Farms was perfect.

Bethany’s New Firehall is Under Construction.

Bethany’s new firehall has been many years in planning process and is now under construction. It is expected to be completed in 2019. The firehall is being built is on land that was given to the municipality by Woodland Hills Community Inc, the development company behind Bethany Village.

The Pumpkin Festival is a family tradition for many. You can enjoy wagon rides out to the pumpkin patch to pick just the right pumpkin to take home and carve. Or wander through corn mazes, play on straw bales, but… be on the lookout for the pumpkin cannon!

The Festival is about more than pumpkins! There is daily entertainment, barnyard animals, an obstacle course including a huge sand pile, pumpkin bowling, a bouncy castle, haunted forest, pumpkin patch wagon rides and wait… even the ‘Bonesville Cemetery’!

The Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour features the work of over 30 artists from Peterborough and County.
The Art Gallery of Peterborough joins forces with local artists, inviting you to explore the visual arts and crafts including visiting where the artists live and work.
Studios and galleries will be open Saturday September 22 and Sunday September 23, from 10 am to 5 pm to display a wide range of arts and crafts, including fine art, ceramics, glass, jewellery, sculpture, wood, fibre, metal and printmaking. This is a self-drive tour and admission is free to all locations.
The tour is broken into 3 geographical areas including the City of Peterborough, the County of Peterborough and Lakefield.
There are too many artists to outline individually here – and getting to see all of them may also be challenging – but no matter who you choose to see, you will not be disappointed.
Here are just a few highlights:
Christy Haldane combines glass with other common building materials, such as stone, concrete and steel enhancing the fragility and strength of the glass components. She melts and fuses reclaimed window glass to create simple forms that highlight the fundamental qualities of the glass.

David Hickey is best known for his metal work depicting the landscape of the Kawarthas. He manipulates rigid hardened metal into a fluid form, similar to how nature transforms the harshness of landscapes.

Stephanie Ford Forrester works in silks, batiks and hand dyed or painted textiles. Her travels in Europe, Afghanistan, and India, combined with unusual living experiences have all contributed to her artistic practice.

Fall is in the air. Kids are going back to school soon. But there is still lots of time for golf in the area. Black Diamond, Baxter Creek, and Wolf Run Golf Club are all within 10 km of Bethany.
Black Diamond Golf Course has been referred to as the “Best Kept Secret”. It’s no wonder, when you consider the course’s features outlined by GolfNow.com…
“Set on rolling terrain and cut through dense forest for the most part, Black Diamond is set amidst tree-lined rolling fairways, fescue, sculptured mounds, multiple elevation changes, spring-fed ponds, 70 bunkers and a double-green. Black Diamond features five doglegs to the left and five more to the right, twisting and turning brilliantly. It will reward shot makers who can control their ball flight, but there’s ample room on generous fairways for players of all skill levels. Four ponds come into play on holes No. 6, 8, 11, 14 and 17, but with no forced carries over creeks or wetlands it has a high degree of playablity for the average golfer. Golfers are faced with a dramatic finish requiring varying degrees of uphill shots to the greens on holes No. 15, 16 and 18.”

Baxter Creek Golf Course

Rolling fairways, greens and bunkers reflect a “Highland” or “Big Sky” flavour interspersed with holes meandering through an established woodlot, naturalized areas and along the picturesque Baxter Creek. The Club has been in operation since 1991 and includes the 18 hole golf course, driving range, restaurant and banquet facility. The course provides 6,716 yards from the longest tee for a par 72. And everyone can play! Wolf Run includes 5 sets of tee positions on every hole. If you like to use your long irons, no problem – there are five par 4’s in a row on the back nine.

The Victoria County Historical Society (VCHS) is a non-profit organization designed to increase community awareness and appreciation of the local heritage. And the area has so much history to share!
Victoria County was formed in 1854 as The United Counties of Peterborough and Victoria. It was separated from Peterborough in 1863. In 2001 the county was dissolved and reformed as the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Today the VCHS celebrates and shares local stories focusing on the area’s connection to Canada’s history.
There are a number of upcoming events to highlight the area’s rich history.
Consider the Victoria County Historical Creative Writing Competition. You have to be 18 years old or older and submit an unpublished story of any genre, to a maximum of 2500 words. Deadline for submissions is midnight on September 9th, 2018. Visit the Olde Gaol Museum website for all of the details.
Trunks to Treasure: Bringing history to life from Souvenir to Artifact is open for public viewing from August 9th to the 31st.
And for something different – and exciting – why not visit the Olde Gaol Museum on Sunday August 19th and meet with Jennifer – The Medium. Jennifer has a regular monthly spot on the “Morning Den” radio show on 105.5 Hits FM with Dan Pollard. She has been connecting with spirit from the age of three. Her talents include spiritual healing, teaching and inspirational speaking. Her services include one on one readings, reading parties, past life regression parties, meditation, and mediumship development classes.

Of course there are options for adults too. The local Treetop Trekking park is located at the Ganaraska Forest Centre between Port Hope and Peterborough, Ontario. Along with a number of easier courses, the Ganaraska park is home to Timberwolf, the most challenging aerial course in Ontario.
The Ganaraska Forest Centre is the perfect location for tree top trekking. The Park boasts over 12,000 acres – making it one of the largest blocks of forested land in southern Ontario.
There are a number of Treetop Trekking locations throughout the province, and activities vary among the parks. Ganaraska offers Zip Line and Aerial Game Treks, plus a team building program.

The Kawartha Lakes Arts and Heritage Trail is a new cultural tourism attraction in Kawartha Lakes, opened in February 2017. The ‘trail’ is virtual, allowing visitors to choose from a wide range of destinations on the Trail Map. The result: your own custom tour, focused on your arts and heritage interests.
Trail members are identified by the official “Arts and Heritage Trail” sign.

The Trail has grown significantly over the past year and now includes over 40 destinations for the 2018 season.
Local artists, museums and cultural destinations that would like to increase awareness about their work can fill out an application to become a part of the Trail.

- Galleries or museums that are open for public viewing with hours of operation posted
- Heritage sites that are managed or cared for by local organizations and are publicly accessible for visitors
- Historic buildings
- Walking trails
The trail will help you discover the area’s rich heritage and artistic talent. Use the interactive map to discover lesser-known places and local legends, visit galleries, artisan studios and craft shops, or take in a concert or festival.
