Have you ever been disappointed that you missed a special event or happening in your community? I certainly have! We get busy and end up seeing the pictures in the local paper from an event that has passed.

Well, mark Sunday September 13, 2015 in your calendar now so you don’t miss the Doors Open – Kawartha Lakes event.

Grain Elevator

The first Doors Open Day took place in France in 1984. The idea soon spread to neighbouring countries, including the Netherlands, Sweden, the Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Scotland.

The first Doors Open event in North America was launched in the year 2000 by the City of Toronto.

Every year, Doors Open Ontario attracts large crowds across the province. Nearly six million visits have been made to heritage sites participating in this exciting initiative since the Ontario launch in 2002. Doors Open Ontario is now considered a cultural phenomenon – and that is why you don’t want to miss Doors Open – Kawartha Lakes!

Ballyduff Presbyterian Church

This year’s event will focus on the southern end of Kawartha Lakes, which has always been predominantly agricultural with crops of grain, tobacco and potatoes. The grain elevator, the homes, the churches and cemeteries reflect this heritage and will be highlighted on September 13th.
