  • Dress appropriately. Frost bite is real and can happen sooner than you think. Dress in layers including a base layer, mid layer and shell on top.
  • Take the right gear including flashlight, smart phone, extra clothing, hand warmers, and snow shoes if you have them.
  • Plan accordingly. Check the weather and pace yourself according to the conditions and your own fitness level.
  • Know your park! Many of the parks and conservation areas around us have miles and miles of trails. Know where you are at and where you are going.
  • Bring a snack and bring a buddy. Don’t hike in the winter alone.
  • Careful of the ice! There are many waterways that contain strong currents – the ice may not be as thick as you think.
