Kawartha ATV Association – Get Ready to Ride!

Kawartha ATV Association (KATVA) is a community advocate for safe and responsible use of ATVs and trails by all users.
KATVA members enjoy dense forest tracts, natural vistas, historic stops, wildlife viewing, and majestic outlooks. A network of scenic routes, on natural trails throughout the Kawartha region offers trail riders more than they generally expect.
The Club’s roots go back to the spring of 1998 when three Kawartha Lakes residents were discussing their recent ATV rides. During the course of that conversation the idea for a club was born. Over the past 18 years KATVA has evolved. They promote safe riding practices, trail maintenance, and tourism promotion. The club is an incorporated, not-for-profit organization.
The Victoria Rail Trail Corridor (VRTC) is an 85 km rail trail, linking Kinmount to Bethany, through Fenelon Falls and Lindsay.
The annual clean up day was last weekend.

Now that the trails are clean, the 2016 Ride Schedule will be launched.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mosport Park and Mosport International Raceway) is a multi-track motorsport venue located north of Bowmanville. They have been presenting major league entertainment to fans since 1961.

The facility features a 2.459-mile (3.957 km), 10-turn road course, a Driver Development Centre and a 1.5 km kart track called Mosport Kartways.
The Driver Development Centre is a 2.88 kilometer advanced driver and race driver training facility, with the Bridgestone Racing Academy as its primary tenant. The Academy is regarded as one of North America’s top race schools, where students learn behind the wheel of a Reynard F2000 open-wheel race car. Several of Canada’s current crop of international racers have graduated from Bridgestone Racing Academy.
Did you know that the average person can get into road racing? The Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs (CASC) sanctions and organizes regional road racing events in Ontario. Some of these events require the completion of a racing license program and others do not. You can get more information on the various licenses available online at www.casc.on.ca
If you are thinking about your summer weekends and vacation plans, you will want to know there are five action-packed major event weekends in 2016 featuring the most varied and exciting racing line-up in Canada. In fact, events will be highlighted by the only Canadian appearances for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Mark your calendars now and make plans to come out for the country’s best racing at Canada’s Home of Motorsports.
Why not get involved by training to be a Marshal or a volunteer? Motorsport Marshalling Services, a member club of Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs – Ontario Region (CASC) has been training and organizing marshalling services for amateur and professional motorsport events since 1978. They also organize marshals for each summer’s Toronto Grand Prix street race in Toronto.
Things happen fast with race traffic approaching 200 and even 300 Km per hour. Members are trained to promote the safety of competitors, spectators, and their fellow marshals by instinctively reacting and making the right decisions under pressure, even while racing continues at their feet.
You can also take Apex Driving Training – it doesn’t matter if you are first-timer or a seasoned veteran. The Apex organization offers a safe and highly comprehensive single day of advanced driver training, delivered through one-on-one experiences on a closed professional track. Driving a high performance car can be exhilarating and Apex aims to give the driver a better understanding of the potential of their vehicle, in a manner that emphasizes safety.

Cheer on the Peterborough Petes Hockey Team This Weekend As They Play North Bay!
Catch all of the excitement of watching the team in their maroon and white home jerseys. If you are new to the area you might not know the Petes have produced many NHL players over the years. In fact, they have produced more National Hockey League players (150+) than any other junior team in the world. That is an amazing record.

Notable alumni include Zack Kassian, Zach Bogosian, Eric & Jordan Staal, Chris Pronger, Steve Yzerman, Bob Gainey, Mike Ricci, and Tie Domi. The franchise has also been home to notable coaches/managers including Scotty Bowman, Roger Neilson, Mike Keenan, Gary Green, and Dick Todd. Dick recorded 500 career victories faster than any other coach in Major Junior A hockey, accomplishing the milestone in just 813 games.
Many loyal fans claim that the hockey team has put Peterborough on the map – giving the city a claim to fame within the hockey world. The Petes are nine-time OHL Champions, have the most Memorial Cup appearances for a franchise (8), and the most Memorial Cup final game appearances (6), both CHL records. The Peterborough Petes won the Memorial Cup Championship in 1979 and the city hosted the Memorial Cup tournament in 1996. It was a great event as the franchise was celebrating its 40th anniversary in the league.

Our Local Lions’ Den Raises Funds for Worthwhile Projects
The Millbrook and District Lions Club celebrated their 68th Anniversary in January. The local Lions Club was formed in 1948 thanks to the organization and commitment of forty-two men from the township. They were sponsored by the Peterborough Lions Club. Today the Club is among the Lions’ Club International network that has a presence in over 200 countries.

The Lion’s Community Centre, Millbrook
The Club’s first action was to raise money from draws to purchase glasses for a young girl and to help a needy family in the village. The theme of preventing blindness and assisting the visually impaired has become a focus for Lions Clubs throughout the world as a result of a challenge from Helen Kellar in 1925 to be her “Knights of the Blind in the fight against darkness.”
Locally, the Lions support the vision and hearing screening program as a free service for children in JK and SK.
The screening identifies children at risk of potential vision loss that is preventable. Parents are notified to follow up with their family physician for a more complete screening.
Screening provides initial information on:
A yearly eye exam is covered by OHIP for children under 18; it is highly recommended that visits to an optometrist become part of your child’s health routine.
If you have a child in JK and/or SK at the following schools which this Lions Club serves, please be sure to sign the permission form.
The Club also collects eye glasses from the community that are then recycled for those who do not have access to them. If you have old glasses, please contact the Club to see where you can drop them off.
